The National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme for Youth nationwide has successfully surpassed the target of 60 percent vaccination rate for adolescents aged 12 to 17.
According to a statement from the Facebook page of the Ministry of Health Malaysia, as of October 5, a total of 1,967,549 (62.5 percent) adolescents 12 to 17 years old have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines.
“This is a very encouraging achievement in the 14 days since the Youth PICK was launched on September 20.
“The number of recipients of the first dose includes 343,231 (90.9 percent) 16-year-old adolescents and 344,933 (92.8 percent) 17-year-olds who are in school.
“Congratulations to the implementation team of the Ministry of Health Malaysia, Ministry of Education, Department of Islamic Development Malaysia, Education Division of Majlis Amanah Rakyat, Malaysian Armed Forces and the agencies involved, especially parents, in ensuring that teenagers are protected,” the statement mentioned.
