Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar will go forward with procurement for the Pfizer vaccine to be administered to children of 5 to 12 years old.
According to his statement via Twitter, he informed that besides Pfizer, the government will also look at other vaccine choices such as Sinovac to be given to the group.
“With the FDA panel recommending Pfizer jabs for 5 to 12 year-olds, Malaysia will go forward with our procurement of Pfizer for kids. We will also look at other options like Sinovac,” he tweeted.
A total of 82.4% of adolescents have received at least one dose while 62% are fully vaccinated.
On October 26, the FDA Advisory Committee confirmed that the Pfizer vaccine can be administered to children of age 5 to 11.
According to the manufacturer of Pfizer, its vaccine has a 90% efficacy against asymptomatic infection.
