Today was a meaningful day for 70-year-old fruit seller, Yip Foong Yin or fondly known as Uncle Yip, as he received a bicycle from the Mayor, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud.
The hardship faced by Uncle Yip was highlighted by Council Member, Clr. Richard Ng via a programme of the Ipoh City Council (MBI) last July.
The three-wheel bicycle worth RM3,350 will be put to good use by Uncle Yip to make a living selling fruits grown in his own orchard.
According to Rumaizi, the assistance is given as an effort to help the people who wish to make a living through business.
Last July, Yip was found living in a dilapidated house. He was living alone after his family home was destroyed in a fire.
A former construction worker, he now makes a living by selling fruits from the orchard inherited from his father.
“Currently, I cannot sell the fruits as my bicycle has broken. I also have to gather rainwater or look for a water source for daily use,” he shared.
