Allocation of RM3 Million for the Rebranding of Gopeng Herb Garden

Proven Optimisation Innovative Solutions (POIS) has allocated a total of RM3.0 million for the rebranding of Gopeng Herb Garden (Taman Herba Gopeng) which began in 2020.

Executive Councillor for Rural Development, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Dato’ Zainol Fadzi Paharuddin, said that the herb garden owned by government-linked company, Perak State Agriculture Development Corporation (SADC) had undergone the first phase and is expected to be fully completed in 2022.

“The Treasure @ Gopeng Herb Garden is the new name given to the place. It is based on three main cores, namely education, community development and environmental preservation.

“I’m confident that once completed, it will spice up the tourism industry in the state. Known as agrotourism, it provides various family-oriented activities for all ages,” he stated during the media conference in conjunction with the pre-opening of The Treasure @ Gopeng Herb Garden today.

Meanwhile, the Director of POIS, Eidia Erriany Abd Rahman said that among the family activities offered are fishing, camping and cycling.

“There is a Petting Zoo here which enables visitors, especially children, to interact with docile animals safely.

“For phase 2, we are developing private villas near the lake with soothing and beautiful natural scenery. Also being developed is the longest flying fox in Perak of 150 metres across the lake that’s set to attract fans of extreme sports.

“The three areas of the garden will be filled with 500 species of herbal plants. Phase 1 focuses on the planting of herbs at the entrance, followed by the back area, in collaboration with the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Mara Lenggong Community College,” he added.

The ceremony also saw the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and The Treasure @ Gopeng Herb Garden by Vice-Chancellor of UTP, Prof Ts Dr Mohamed lbrahim Abdul Mutalib and Eidia Erriany.
