Letter: We Cannot Choose The Consequences of Our Actions

The Caucasian woman who recently went viral on social media from a video of her making a fuss after being denied entry into a luxury boutique in Kuala Lumpur for not wearing a mask, was once again in the limelight after she appeared in another video on Twitter to address the situation on Saturday (November 6).

The woman, who identified herself as Kerry, cited freedom of choice as her reason for not wearing a mask.

“Our song is freedom – freedom to choose what we eat, where we go, who we go with and what we do to our bodies, medically or otherwise.

“It is a choice: your choice, my choice,” she said in the video.

In response to this, here is what Dato’ Daniel Tay from Ipoh has to say:

There is freedom. We are free to choose but we are not free to choose the consequences of our actions.

We can choose to jump off a plane without a parachute. We can choose to have unsafe sex without a condom. But we are not free to choose the consequences that follow.

We can choose not to wear a mask. There are consequences that follow.

Thank you.
