The Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) in Dubai in conjunction with the Dubai Expo 2020 which is currently underway.
The MoU agreement involves the Ipoh City Council (MBI) and Chang Jiang International Sdn. Bhd. (Ipoh Coffee City), Mansion Machinery Sdn. Bhd (Tasik Cermin Eco & Agro Tourism) and Evergreen Monies Sdn. Bhd (Eco Tourism).
According to the Mayor, the MoUs were signed to further strengthen the tourism sector in Perak, especially in Ipoh.
“Next year, MBI will be launching various new tourism products such as the Riverwalk on the banks of Sungai Kinta, ‘Light & Sound’ in Ipoh Padang, Tasik Cermin in Gunung Rapat, Amphitheatre in Taman DR Seenivasagam and Geotrail in Gunung Masoorat.
“At the same time, other programmes have been planned for January 2022, such as the Art in The City Program as a result of a collaboration between MBI, CENDANA and Tin City.
“I am confident that through the Dubai Expo 2020, we can promote Perak’s tourism products to 192 countries. Among the tourism products of Ipoh City that can attract tourists are Kinta Riverwalk, TT5 Tin Dredge and Ipoh Taman Geo,” he said after signing the MoU at the Perak Pavillion Malaysia Day Opening Ceremony at Dubai Expo 2020, today.
The opening ceremony of Perak Pavilion Malaysia Day was officiated by the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Nancy Shukri.
Dubai Expo 2020 runs for six months from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. So far, a total of 2.9 million visitors from around the world have visited the expo.
Rumaizi also hopes that tourism promotion will attract more than 50% of tourists to Ipoh in line with the Perak State Government’s target to attract 14 million tourists by 2022.
“MBI will continue to support the Perak Government through Tourism Perak to achieve the goal of 14 million tourists as stated by the Perak State Executive for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashiln Muhammad Radzi in the recent State Assembly,” he said.
