Self-testing involving primary school students can now be conducted at home beginning this week, with the schools to be informed of the results.
Senior Education Minister, Datuk Dr. Mohd. Radzi Jidin said the matter received agreement from the Ministry of Health after discussion with the Ministry of Education.
According to him, self-test kits will be provided by schools and further information on that matter will be provided via a press statement to be issued by the Ministry of Education later.
“I would like to stress on the importance for parents of selected children to conduct the test at home following the procedures to be set later.
“This is to ensure that the school session can go on smoothly and safely. If it is not done according to set procedures, those to be impacted are not only the children but also their friends and teachers at school,” he stated via a video uploaded on Facebook yesterday.
He highlighted that parents need to play their roles in ensuring that the tests are done according to the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the Ministry of Health.
“I’m confident that with the effort and cooperation from parents, the children can attend school safely.
Via the National COVID-19 Testing Strategy of the Ministry of Health, it is stated among others that 10% of primary school students will be chosen randomly to undergo weekly self-testing on a rotation basis at school and this method has been implemented since December 1.
