A Compound of RM250 for Illegal Rubbish Dumping

The Ipoh City Council (MBI) takes strict action against illegal rubbish dumping, a habit which is prevalent in the city.

Mayor, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud stressed that it is time for the people to be alert and ready to cooperate with the local authorities (PBT) to collectively make Ipoh the cleanest city in Malaysia by 2023.

“This responsibility is not solely under the MBI as it requires participation from all parties. The submission of complaints on illegal rubbish dumping, for example, forms a two-way cooperation between MBI and the community.

“Members of the public can channel information on illegal rubbish dumping around Ipoh to MBI’s Whatsapp for complaints: 019-5533083. A compound of RM250 under the Street, Drainage and Building Act will be imposed on the wrong-doer if the complaint is valid.

“However, the compound is the final action if other actions are ignored by Ipohites,” he said in a media statement today.

Beginning 1 January till 31 December 2021, MBI cleaned up 24,848 locations of illegal rubbish dumps and issued 704 compounds worth RM581,350.

MBI also carried out 12 gotong-royong (communal work-together to clean up an area) programmes and installed 176 sign boards of “Dilarang Membuang Sampah” (Do Not Litter) around Ipoh.

Rumaizi added that the effort can be implemented together with a committed community to ensure that MBI’s mission to make Ipoh the cleanest city can be achieved.
