MBI Facilitates Urban Farming Activities
The city community is encouraged to participate in urban farming in an effort to green the area as the application process will be made easy by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) especially involving new communities.
Mayor, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin said it includes following the set guidelines and at the same time making farming activities a food source for the community.
According to him, assistance is provided for the activity which receives much support.
“MBI will help from the aspect of application approval for the development of community gardens especially the impacted groups.
He said so to the press during the CSR programme to help the storm victims of Taman Tasek Damai today (February 9).
The programme involved the cooperation between the Perak State Agriculture Development Corporation (Perak SADC) and Perak Agriculture Department especially from the aspect of agricultural aid.
Present were CEO of SADC, Yahanis Yahya and Director of Perak Agriculture Department, Norsiyenti Othman.
For the CSR programme, a total of 30 residents affected by the storm will receive aid in the form of fruit seeds and nutripot sets.
Perak SADC will provide agricultural input involving 30 seedlings of banana, papaya, cempedak and jackfruit while the Perak Agriculture Department will provide 40 seedlings of coconut, 30 nutripot sets and fertiliser among others.
The provided aid is viewed as one of the methods for the existing community to redevelop farming activities in areas affected by the incident.
This is also in line with the government’s urge to carry out farming at one’s own home as envisioned by Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad via the Kebun Kita (Our Garden) programme.
