Data from Shopee Malaysia showed that consumers in Malaysia are shifting to e-commerce platforms to obtain necessities in phases, especially face masks.
The finding was obtained from Shopee’s analysis of the shopping trend on month end to understand how Malaysians spend their salary.
The data also showed that Malaysians are currently shifting to Shopee to obtain necessities.
Shopee, in a statement, informed that this is due to necessities like Milo powder, instant noodles, biscuits, sambal, grains, toilet paper, diaper and others being consistently among the top 20 most purchased items by consumers nationwide.
“Data found that one of the necessities sought by Malaysians are face masks, which is the most popular product among users from Kelantan, Pahang and Putrajaya.
“This is because face masks of various brands are 11 out of the 20 most purchased items by consumers in those locations,” the statement mentioned.
This was followed by users from Kedah, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu where face masks of various brands are 50% out of the 20 most purchased products by these consumers.
On the other hand, the purchase of face masks has a lower priority among consumers from Kuala Lumpur and Pulau Pinang.
Besides that, prepaid reload vouchers are also gaining popularity among Shopee users.
Malaysian consumers also take the opportunity to browse other products during the Shopee PayDay Sale.
Other popular categories on the platform included home appliances, mobile phones and accessories, health and beauty as well as men’s apparel.
Popular items from these categories included air fryers, cordless vacuum cleaners, Bluetooth earphones, gaming headphones, oximeters, skincare products like serum and masks, brow grooming kits, track pants and leather belts.
