Persatuan DAYBREAK recently welcomed YB Tan Kar Hing, State Assemblyman for Simpang Pulai and YB Sandrea Ng, State Assemblywoman for Teja on their first visit to its Vocational Training Centre at Jalan Pulai, Pengkalan Pegoh.
DAYBREAK’s Committee members, Siu Tack Chuan (Secretary), Chow Siew Wai (Treasurer), Nancy Teoh (Committee Member), Leonard Lim (Committee Member) and Stanley Lim (Committee Member) were present to welcome them to the Association.
The visit began with a video presentation on the progress of the Association since its formation in 1992, and the nature of DAYBREAK’s training programmes. This was followed by a lively and informative Q&A session during which the work skills taught at DAYBREAK, the requirements for enrolment to the Vocational Training Programme, and the successful role of DAYBREAK in helping their trainees find sustainable employment were discussed.
The visitors were shown the type of work skills the trainees are learning at the workstations in the training workshop, such as sewing and stitching of handicrafts, assembly and packaging of toys and gifts, checking the quality of metal items made by a factory, and checking the quality of school socks before packing them. The gardening skills taught to trainees were explained to the visitors at DAYBREAK’s plant nursery which is stocked with indoor decorative plants.
Persatuan DAYBREAK provides vocational skills training to Persons With Disabilities, working closely with the Department of Social Welfare and the Special Education Unit of the Ministry of Education. It also provides job placement and job coaching services for its trainees.
