Good news for all Malaysians returning home for the festive season as they will not need to pay the toll or only pay part of it.
This is following the announcement by the government on the provision of free tolls and discounts of up to 50% for the Malaysian Family returning home to celebrate.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the step was taken after discussions with 30 highway concessionaires.
“It involves 30 highways nationwide with discounts to be enjoyed by users amounting to RM77.11 million.
“This total will be borne collectively by the government and concessionaires,” he said in a statement today.
The provision of free tolls involves the highways under the PLUS Malaysia Berhad Group (PLUS) connecting the North-South Highway and Anih Berhad (ANIH) connecting the East Coast Expressway.
The free tolls and discounts are effective beginning 12 midnight of Saturday, April 30 till 11.59pm of Sunday, May 1 for all classes of vehicles.
“The free tolls at the North-South Highway and East Coast Expressway will also be given to those returning beginning 12 midnight of Saturday, May 7 till 11:59pm of Sunday, May 8 for all classes of vehicles.
“Toll discounts of between 30% to 50% will be given for other highways at the same date and time for all classes of vehicles.
This decision was made to lessen the burden of Malaysians who have had their source of income impacted by the pandemic.
