Anak Perak Brought Home Malaysia’s First Silver Medal at Hanoi Sea Games

Salute to the national athlete, Tahira Najmunisaa Muhammad Zaid who brought home the first silver medal in the women’s Duathlon event at the Hanoi Sea Games, Vietnam recently. 

The 33-year-old who completed the race in Quang Ninh, which consisted of a 10-kilometer run, a 40km cycle and another 5km run in two hours, 14 minutes and 22 seconds is a mother of four.

She shared that the reason for her participation in the game is to secure medals for the country. The podium finish had fueled her motivation to try harder in the upcoming match.

“The weather during the 10km run and 40km cycling was calm with cool winds, although it drizzled during the last 5km run. 

“With all the support from fellow Malaysians, I managed to take home second place. My mission is to bring home the gold medal at the next Sea Games,” said Tahira, who hails from Perak and currently residing in Manjung. 

Meanwhile, compatriot Pow Chia Ling crossed the line with a time of 2:22:30 seconds and came in seventh.

As for the Filipino athlete, Marion Kim Mangrobang won gold after crossing the line at 2:13:12 seconds and Zahra Putri Bulan Aprilla from Indonesia (2:14:49 seconds) won bronze.

Malaysia did not win any medals in the duathlon at the 2019 Manila Sea Games.
