The weekly clean-ups initiated by Trash Hero Ipoh (THI) are held every weekend from 5.30pm.
The upcoming clean-up this week will be held on Saturday, July 2 at the Ipoh Padang.
It is open to everyone to join and no sign-up is required – just show up!
Held with strict adherence to the health and safety standard operating procedures, participants must fulfill the following conditions: have a healthy body, have not had close contact with COVID-19 patients, and face masks must be worn at all times during the clean-up.
Tools such as rubbish sacks are provided. Do take note to bring your own hand gloves and drinking water bottles.
During each session, data is collected to identify problems and the kind of trash most likely to be found in a spot. After that, it will be submitted to the authorities for the next course of action.
As of May 31, 109 clean-ups have been carried out involving 879 volunteers, out of which 70 were children. A total of 2,263.66kg of trash have been collected, with 32.864kg recycled. The collected litter was made up of 26,332 cigarette butts and 635 masks among others.
