A participant passed away while participating in the Perak Triathlon 2022 in Lumut yesterday morning.
The victim, Zion Ho Chee Cheong was confirmed to have died while receiving treatment at Seri Manjung Hospital.
President of the Malaysia Triathlon Association, Tony Tan, said that the association and the local organising committee were saddened by the incident.
According to the transcript, Zion was understood to have been suffering difficulties during the 750m swim leg.
“He was given immediate first medical response on the Fire Department boat before being rushed to the Seri Manjung Hospital.
“He was said to have had difficulty in breathing and was given further treatment by the hospital upon his arrival,” the statement said.
However, he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.
Further investigations into the incident are currently underway by the police.
Meanwhile, the Perak Triathlon Association in a post via Facebook said the departure of Zion Ho Chee Cheong was a great loss.
“It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to someone we all called a friend and for some people, family.
“Zion was a pretty great friend to us and also an athlete with great ability.
“A good and unselfish person, that’s the picture of him. He remains in our hearts,” the sender said.
