Ipoh City Council Signs MoU with MACP
The Ipoh City Council (MBI) has become the first local authority in Malaysia to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Music Authors Copyright Protection (MACP) Berhad.
Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud said the MoU is in line with the vision to make Ipoh a city of art which respects the copyright of musical works.
“This memorandum indirectly helps to establish a strategic and robust cooperation.
“The MBI has implemented necessary efforts to ensure that the RadioTV of MBI (RTBI) as well as public performances organised by the MBI and RTBI have obtained valid licences from MACP.
“This collaboration shows that MBI is a responsible user and is always responsive in upholding the rights of Malaysian music creators,” he said at a press conference after signing the MoU at the MBI premises recently.
Present were MACP Chairman, Dato’ M. Nasir and MACP General Manager, Mary Yap.
The mayor stressed that copyright should be respected, as music is an intellectual property and its creators should be compensated accordingly.
He added that the MBI will always be alert and in support of the efforts to uphold the works of local artists, as it will become a cultural heritage and asset of high value.
Meanwhile, M Nasir expressed his appreciation and gratitude for MBI’s efforts.
“Before this, we might not have gotten such an MoU as we did not get anything from the musical activities that took place before in Ipoh.
“On behalf of the MACP, I am very grateful because the mayor appreciates the works of the creative community, which should be protected.
