In line with its vision of becoming a modern multidisciplinary hospital providing affordable quality healthcare services, the Perak Community Specialist Hospital (PCSH) has completed the construction of a new 6-storey building adjacent to its existing block and is now operational.
Known as the Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng building, the new block comprises many new facilities and services including 75 beds (both single and double bedders), 26 consultant suites and upgraded diagnostic facilities such as a 128 Slice CT Scan, 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Fluoroscopy.
81-year-old patient, Tam Ba Ba, was delighted to be the first patient to be scanned at PCSH’s new MRI today.
He has been utilising services at PCSH since 2003. Tam said, “Initially, I was worried as I had never done an MRI. I have been having problems with my pelvis and difficulties moving about. My attending specialist, Dr Manivannan, assured me that the procedure is easy, safe and uses magnetic technology. Earlier, I was afraid of doing the MRI as I had heard from my friends it would be like going through a tunnel which could be claustrophobic and suffocating. There might be sounds of the machine clicking which could be frightening. It was claimed to be similar to being in a coffin.”
Tam continued, “With assurance and proper explanation by imaging staff, I found there was actually nothing to fear. The gantry was roomy, had soothing music throughout and was not claustrophobic.”
He added, “I am impressed PCSH is equipped with the latest technology yet has an affordable rate. Everything can be done here.”
Tam was overjoyed with the comfort and care he received and very impressed with PCSH’s advanced technology that brings greater and more comprehensive diagnostic care to patients and community at large.
Meanwhile, 58-year-old Lin Chin Nyeun, with an ankle problem, was the first patient to use the new 128 Slice CT Scan.
She was impressed that PCSH now has the latest diagnostic facility and there will no longer be inconvenience for patients like her to go to another hospital to undergo this procedure. She was very happy and excited to be the first PCSH patient to do the CT scan.
Under the care of Dr Janarthan, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Lin said she had a great experience as the staff members were friendly and helpful while the CT scan was of a high image quality done at a very affordable price.
She felt comfortable when undergoing the scanning procedure as she found the scanning room to be very spacious and the procedure itself was very fast.
Presently, PCSH is going through a transformation and expansion phase in order to become the preferred tertiary hospital in Ipoh and Perak as a whole.
