PCSH Mega Heart Campaign Begins Today
In conjunction with the upcoming World Heart Day, the Perak Community Specialist Hospital (PCSH) began its 4-day Mega Heart Campaign today featuring various free health screenings, special promotions, fun activities and exhibits.
The first two days (August 18 to 19) of the initiative is ongoing at the main lobby of the hospital’s new block (Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng building) from 8.30am till 3pm.
It will proceed for another two days (August 20 to 21) at the Aeon Mall Ipoh Klebang from 10am till 5pm.
Visitors of all ages and ethnicities were spotted during the first day of the campaign.
Running on the theme “Listen To Your Heart”, the initiative is held in collaboration with healthcare company, Viatris.
One highlight of the ongoing tour is a mega inflatable heart exhibit where members of the public can experience a guided, interactive walk-through inside the vital organ to learn how it functions. Measuring 26′ long, 15′ wide and 13′ high, the replica of the human heart also displays examples of heart diseases.
The free health screenings include blood pressure check, total cholesterol and hearing assessment.
Besides that, the sessions at Aeon Mall Ipoh Klebang will see the addition of multiple fitness activities like bike spinning, Zumba and line dance.
Referring to the national statistics, Dr Ng Seng Loong, resident interventional cardiologist and physician at PCSH pointed out, “We can actually note that ischaemic heart diseases still remained as the principal causes of death in Malaysia which is 17% of the 109,155 medically certified deaths in 2020.”
“It is not surprising to see that from 2019 to 2020, there is an increase in the statistics of ischaemic heart diseases, both in urban and rural areas. Thus, it is very timely for us now, recuperating from the Covid pandemic, to instill public awareness on this condition that is still the principal cause of death in Malaysia,” he expressed during a press conference this morning at PCSH.
“At PCSH, we are very lucky as its Heart Centre is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art Philips Azurion 7 Angiography System which can capture high-definition images, allow us to perform a very wide range of minimally invasive procedures and accommodate other procedures as well,” he added.
Regarding public awareness, Ng observed that currently more members of the public are stepping up to undergo health screenings including the younger age group of 30 years onwards which is a very encouraging trend.
Present were Nicholas Chan, CEO of PCSH and Sayed Hesham, Chairman of Perak Association of Media Practitioners.
“In line with our tagline of providing affordable quality healthcare, this new 6-storey building is equipped with the latest diagnostic facilities like the MRI Siemens Magnatom 1.5 Tesla, 128 Slice Siemens Somatom CT Scan and Fluoroscopy among others,” Nicholas shared.
PCSH is a not-for-profit institution established in 1904 (formerly known as the Perak Chinese Maternity Hospital).
From its humble beginnings as a 6-bedded hospital rendering maternity services to Chinese families in the tin-mining community in Perak, today it is a 119-bedded multi-disciplinary specialist hospital and one of the oldest community hospitals in Malaysia.
Located along Jalan Kampar, it is set to become a preferred tertiary hospital in Ipoh and Perak as a whole.
Through its welfare arm, deserving and needy patients can apply for subsidies to lower their medical bills incurred at the hospital. The PCSH Welfare Fund can be reached at 016 5239000.
Meanwhile, the hospital can be reached at 05 2419000 or via email at: info@pcsh.com.my.
