Planning and paperwork are being organised to enable Lenggong Valley to meet the criteria set to be recognised as a UNESCO Global Geopark.

Member of Parliament for Lenggong, Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah informed that he is optimistic that the recognition will be obtained at the beginning of 2024.

“We have just received national recognition in December 2021 and in addition, Lenggong has many features that are of international standard and meet the required criteria.

“So the National Geopark committee gave the initiative for us to go further, and due to that, this committee will prepare the proposal paper and shall be in discussion with the state government for us to draw up a plan to enable Lenggong to be recognized as the third UNESCO Global Geopark, after Langkawi and Kinabalu,” he said.

He said this at a press conference when commenting on the development of Lenggong Valley’s application status as a UNESCO Global Geopark.

Shamsul Anuar was met by reporters after the Launch Ceremony of the 48-12 Hour Ironbound Adventure 1 National Series Lenggong 2022 on Thursday.

Also present was the Chairman of the Housing, Local Government and Tourism Committee, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin binti Dato’ Mohammed Radzi.
