Mayor, Dato’ Rumaizi bin Baharin @ Md Daud stated that environmental health plays an important role in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) to increase the quality of life in various sectors.
“The celebration of World Environmental Health Day provides a reminder on its importance besides creating awareness on environmental cleanliness, in line with the mission of Towards Clean Ipoh 2023.
“SDG was adopted by the United Nations in 2015 to end poverty, protect the Earth and ensure all residents live in peace and harmony.
“Development should be balanced with social, economic and environmental sustainability. It can help to curb climate change and preserve the oceans and forests. With a well institutionalised Environmental Health System, the targets set will be easily achievable,” he said after officiating the celebration during the Car Free Day by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) recently.
Present were President of Malaysia Association of Environmental Health, Megat Azman Megat Mokhtar and City Councillors.
World Environmental Health Day is celebrated on September 26 every year. The theme this year is “Strengthening Environmental Health Systems for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.”
The programme was also joined by members of the Malaysia Association of Environmental Health and environmental health officers from all over Malaysia totalling 100 people.
