Sports enthusiasts can grab the opportunity to participate in the upcoming Gopeng 4×4 Tug Of War Championship 2022 to be held for the first time ever from October 1 to 2.
Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin binti Dato’ Mohammed Radzi said the popular sports event is set to enliven the Gopeng Homestay for two days.
“The championship is open to all Malaysians. We target a total of 40 teams. To date, 20 teams have agreed to participate, made up of groups from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Shah Alam City Council, University of Malaya, Royal Malaysia Police and others.
“Usually, each team consists of eight members but the organising committee has decided to limit it to four with the overall maximum weight of the team to be 320kg,” she said during a media conference on the championship at the meeting room of the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building recently.
Present was Nurmalis Musa, CEO of Tourism Perak.
Meanwhile, the President of the Perak Homestay Association, Noradidah Mokhtar stated that the sport has the potential to attract tourists who spend their holidays at Gopeng Homestay.
“We want to highlight the sport to visitors, especially international tourists. Before this, the sport was more popular among the communities in rural areas where it was held during family day and sports day among others.
“Participation is open till the first day of the championship. Those interested can contact Zul at 010 860 9713. The participation fee is set at RM100 for each team.
The champion will bring home a cash prize of RM1,000 and a challenge trophy (Piala Exco Pelancongan). First runner-up will receive RM700, second runner-up will receive RM500, third runner-up will receive RM300 while winners of fifth to eighth placings will receive RM100 each.
