The Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia (BKM) programme will provide cash aids of up to RM2,500 to households with five or more children and earning less than RM2,500.
This is a new category for aid, created in an effort to reduce the burden on households with large family members.
The matter was announced by the Minister of Finance, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz at the 2023 Budget presentation session in the House of Representatives.
“For households that earn an income of less than RM2,500 and bear a family of up to 5 children, BKM assistance of RM1,000 to RM2,000 will be distributed to those who qualify.
“For households that receive an income of RM2,500 to RM5,000, assistance of RM500 to RM1,250 will be given depending on the number of children who are being supported,” he said.
This BKM 2023 will benefit 8.7 million beneficiaries and involve an allocation of RM7.8 billion.
For those who do not have a partner and those who are single, the government will continue to channel allowances of RM600 and RM300 respectively depending on their income.
Assistance to single parents will also be increased to RM3,000 as compared to RM2,500 from last year’s budget, which is an additional RM500.
