Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) have agreed to jointly form the state government in Perak.
Perak BN chairman who is also the state UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said he and Perak DAP Treasurer Howard Lee Chuan How had met the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah and informed the agreement of the two coalitions on the matter.
“That is what we presented and it is up to Tuanku whether he is convinced and agrees with the proposed government establishment,” he told reporters after meeting Sultan Nazrin at Istana Kinta today.
This follows no coalition obtaining a sufficient majority to form a government.
“BN and PH jointly won 33 majority seats in the Perak State Legislative Assembly in the 15th General Election (GE15) which was held on 19 Nov 2022.
“For the sake of the people and the country, BN and PH Perak have agreed to form the Perak state government and detailed information will be announced in the near future,” according to the statement.
Amanah Perak chairman Datuk Asmuni Awi in a video statement said the move will form a stable state government to fulfil the wishes of most people who want to see a new government that manages the state successfully.
GE15 results saw Perikatan Nasional (PN) successfully obtain 26 state assembly seats while PH captured 24 seats and nine seats were won by BN.
The Perak State Government was previously formed by a combination of three parties namely BN, Bersatu and PAS.
