Three died in a car collision in Sitiawan

A fatal accident involving a family of three late last night on Jalan Kampung Koh-Pantai Remis near Bainun Bridge in Sitiawan, was caused by a Proton Saga car colliding with a Chevrolet Captiva car from the opposite direction.

Perak Police Chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said that as a result of the collision, the Proton Saga car in which the five victims were riding stopped on the left side of the road, while the Chevrolet Captiva was on the right side of the road.

He said, after that, the Chevrolet Captiva caught fire from the front, which is suspected to be due to a petrol leak.

“The accident involved a driver and four passengers of a Proton Saga type vehicle and a driver of a Chevrolet Captiva type vehicle.

“A 33-year-old male driver and two passengers, his wife (32 years old) and son (2 years old) were confirmed dead at the scene.

“While two other passengers, a girl and a boy, aged 6 and 4 respectively, were injured in the chest and forehead.

“The driver of the Chevrolet Captiva, a 21-year-old woman, suffered a broken leg,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Mohd Yusri said all the victims were sent to Seri Manjung Hospital for further treatment while the three victims who died were taken to the same hospital for post-mortem.

He said the case was classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.

He also asked the public who have information about the incident to come forward to help the investigation by contacting the Traffic Investigation Officer, Insp. Mohd Fahrulradzi Zakaria at 012-4433441.

In addition, he said the police advised the public to be more careful and prudent when on the road, especially during the school holidays.
