In conjunction with the school holidays and New Year’s Eve, a Caricature Workshop will be held at the Mini Theatre at Kellie’s Castle in Batu Gajah, on Dec 31, from 9 am to 1 pm.
The speaker will be Chu Orn, a Perak born cartoonist as well as Kellie’s Castle’s resident cartoonist. As well as being an active and full time cartoonist, he’s the lead editor of Ketawalah Magazine with more than 10 years of experience in the cartoon and comic scene, doing caricatures, comics and so forth.
The workshop is one of the creative art Holiday Workshops organised by Kellie’s Castle to promote tourism in Geopark Lembah Kinta. Organised by Kellie’s Castle under the management of En Zamari Muhyi, it is supported by the Majlis Daerah Batu Gajah, Persatuan Pengusaha Pelancongan Bumiputra Perak, Perbadanan Taman Negeri Perak, Jabatan Mineral dan Geosains Malaysia, Sako+ and Pekan Kartun. And is also supported by the Perak cartoon and comic community.
The objective is to empower the local creative scene to support the tourism industry and promote cartoon art in Perak. This programme hopes to find and train apprentices to become caricaturists, as caricaturists are known as one of the tourists and event attractions in Perak.
During the workshop, there will also be sale of comics and cartoons, buskers, crafts and many more attractions at Kellie’s Castle. The workshop targets all ages, from children to adults, as long as they have basic knowledge in drawing and are eager to learn. Goodie bags, refreshment and certificates are provided.
