Brake problem the cause of 10 vehicle accident on the highway last night

The accident involving three trailers and seven other vehicles at kilometre (km) 307.8 of the North-South Highway (PLUS) northbound, near Gopeng, last night is believed to be caused by a Nissan-type trailer that had brake problems.
Perak Police Chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said, the trailer had hit seven other cars that were stopped due to traffic on the congested highway.
He further said that his party received a report regarding the 10 vehicle accident at 10.40pm.
“Preliminary investigations found that all the vehicles were travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh. All the injured were taken to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Ipoh for treatment.
“Congestion due to this accident is approximately 10 km and the dispersal was completed at approximately 3.15 am,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the vehicles involved in the accident were Atros trailers, Scania trailers, Nissan trailers, Perodua Alza, Volkswagen, Honda Civic, Toyota Yaris, Perodua Aruz, Honda CRV and BMW.
In the meantime, he said, the urine test of the trailer driver found negative results for drugs and alcohol.
“We have located independent witnesses and recorded the conversations of all parties involved, the trailer driver was arrested for further investigation,” he added.
Mohd Yusri said the case was classified according to Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
