KUALA LUMPUR: All 85 Malaysians were reported safe and not in the disaster area following the Turkey earthquake incident.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said, in updating on the latest developments regarding the earthquake incident in Southern Turkey.
“So far, only four Malaysians are still in the affected area. Two of them are doctors working with hospitals in the area, while the other two are married to local citizens.
“Based on feedback from Syria, all 85 Malaysians were reported safe and not in the disaster area,” he said through a statement on his Facebook today.
Zambry said, it is also reported that the latest number of victims exceeds 29 000; the number of victims in Turkey are as many as 24,617 people while in Syria, there are as many as 4,500 people. (Info from Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency – AFAD)
He said, the Coordination Meeting on Earthquake Humanitarian Aid in Turkey and Syria took place today.
“These periodic meetings are held to update the current situation of the aid mission in Turkey and Syria.
“The meeting chaired by the Head of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs was also attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Malaysia, representatives from The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM),” he said.
He added that at the same time, an aid mission to Syria is also being mobilised.
“I pray that the aid team will be given the strength and commitment to continue this aid mission,” he said.
