One year later, identity of quarry collapse victim confirmed

GOPENG: After waiting for almost a year, the next of kin of one of the two victims who were buried in the quarry collapse incident in Keramat Pulai, Simpang Pulai in March, has finally received the identity confirmation from the authorities.

The chairman of the Housing and Local Government Committee, Sandrea Ng said she visited Kampung Ulu Jelintuh to pay her last respects to the late Itam Lasoh.

“After almost a year, the family finally got identity confirmation from the authorities.

“This incident is indeed a challenging test for the family of the deceased,” she said through a statement on her Facebook yesterday.

Sandrea said that a small donation was handed out and she discussed welfare issues and planning for the family in the future.

“I will also take follow-up action so that all relevant agencies provide detailed reports for us to better understand the incident and try to improve safety in the quarry area.

The media previously reported that the process of matching the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples of the two victims who died buried in the quarry stone collapse incident in Keramat Pulai, Simpang Pulai took at least two months.

Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan reportedly said that it took a long time to get DNA results, especially for samples that were sent abroad for identity verification.

Earlier, a rockfall at the quarry site, at about 9.15am on March 8 last year, buried two victims, namely Itam Lasoh and Kheow Loo Siew Soon.
