Perak government passed appointment of 286 Local Council Members

The State Government Council Meeting yesterday approved the appointment of 286 Local Authority Councilors (PBT).
Perak Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said, the appointments are effective for the period from February 16 to February 15, 2024 while the remaining 39 names will be proposed in phase two of the appointments.
“Of the total, 215 appointed Council Members are male while 71 are female.
“The proposal to fill the quota of 325 Local Government Council Members this year is subject to the appointment conditions as contained in the Guidelines for the Appointment of Perak Darul Ridzuan Local Government Council Members in 2023,” he said in a statement today.
Saarani said, according to the guidelines, candidates must meet the eligibility requirements, including being between 18 and 65 years old, in good health and not having a criminal record or disciplinary action.
“The amendment of the age limit for the appointment of Councilor candidates starting at the age of 18 is in line with the age limit for voting which starts at the age of 18,” he said.
In the meantime, he said, yesterday’s State Council Meeting also approved the establishment of a Coordinating Committee for the Selection and Performance Evaluation of Local Government Council Members chaired by the Housing and Local Government Exco.
