The uniqueness of Telaga Gergasi in Selama, Perak.
By: Rosli Mansor
This Telaga Gergasi (Giant Well) which is located in Kampung Jalan Baru, Selama, is a remnant of British technology that functions to control the rate of water flow from Ijok River to Bukit Merah Lake.
The flow of water to Bukit Merah Lake is very important until now for the irrigation of paddy fields in Kerian District.
The British technology that was built originally served to transfer tin ore products through the river, but the modern features of the construction can indirectly prevent soil erosion from being deposited in the Bukit Merah Lake after being carried by the water flow.
Giant Well is about 100 feet deep, and has become one of the main attractions in Selama, Perak.
