by KT Leong

With over 40 years of history behind them,  Yayasan Ipoh (YI), which was formerly known as Yayasan Sultan Idris Shah, continues to strive in serving the community by providing the best services possible. They work to rehabilitate those who are disabled, so that they can be participating members of their community. This is motivated by YI’s motto to ensure that no one is left behind.

Founded in 1982, YI is a non-profit organisation established to primarily raise funds to support the rehabilitation services of its therapy division, Persatuan Pemulihan Sultan Azlan Shah (PPSAS). They only charge a minimal price to cover their costs.

This donor-funded rehabilitation centre in Bercham provides various therapy services for people with disabilities and anyone in need, irrespective of race, religion, culture, age or financial status.

Located at Lorong Bercham 11, they provide several services such as Orthopaedic Specialist Clinic, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Sensory Stimulation Therapy, Speech Therapy and Hydrotherapy.

Speaking of hydrotherapy, they are currently the most active hydrotherapy facility in Ipoh. While not the only facility, they run weekly sessions every Wednesday, whereby the waters are heated up and multiple patients can get the rehabilitation they require.
