Repair work involving cables and floodlight components at Perak Stadium, which suffered from a break-in on February 14, will be fully completed tonight, said Ipoh Mayor Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud.
According to Rumaizi, the replacement process is being carried out and is still being implemented, in addition to the work being 70 percent complete as of noon today.
Therefore, he said, he is optimistic that the facility can be used as usual for the Super League competition, Perak FC against Kedah FC on February 25.
“We promised XOX Perak that the repair work will be completed before February 25, and in the meantime we have appointed three companies to do the work simultaneously.
“God willing, there will be no problems and the match can be held on the night of the 25th.
“Tonight we will complete all the repair work 100 percent, so tomorrow morning we will test all the equipment.
“Tomorrow night, if anyone wants to come and see, we will do a test to make sure the floodlight system can be used,” he said.
He said this to reporters at a press conference after the Council Member Swearing-in Ceremony for the period of 16 February 2023 to 15 February 2024 at the Ipoh City Council (MBI) Meeting Hall on Wednesday.
Also present was the Chairman of the State Housing and Local Government Committee, Sandrea Ng Shy Ching.
Meanwhile, when asked if there was an element of sabotage regarding the case, Rumaizi said he submitted everything to the police investigation.
“I leave it to the police, because it feels like this has never happened in Perak. It’s strange that it suddenly happened like this,” he said again.
Last Friday, MBI confirmed the theft of cable and floodlight components at the Perak Stadium even as it went viral on social media.
In a statement, MBI said that the incident was noticed last Tuesday when maintenance work was being carried out on the floodlights in preparation for the Malaysian League (M-League) this season.
