IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) has urged the Railway Asset Corporation (RAC) to immediately resolve the unsatisfactory cleanliness issue at the Ipoh Railway Station grounds.
The Mayor of Ipoh, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, said that his party was aware of the issue and took the cleanliness issue seriously, especially in the Year of Visiting Ipoh 2023.
“I called the RAC last Monday, and we have asked them to take immediate action regarding the cleaning works, including the toilets and the Majestic building.
“I don’t know the extent of the cleaning work, but so far we have consulted with them.
“The reason is that we do not want to sue the RAC, because they are a statutory body of the Federal government, under the Ministry of Transport, but we have already called,” he said.
He said this when asked by reporters about the complaints of the public, including foreign tourists, regarding the cleanliness issue at the Ipoh Railway Station grounds which were said to be neglected.
Up till now, garbage was thrown everywhere, bird droppings were not cleaned around the historic building.
In the meantime, Rumaizi added that his side had to take decisive action if the parties involved were still stubborn.
“If they are still stubborn, I think we have to take appropriate action. But since they are a Federal government agency, we hope they understand.
“If you went to the discussion with them last Monday, they said they would take immediate action to ensure cleanliness,” he added.
This 100-year-old station, which is the main entrance for rail users to Ipoh, receives the presence of thousands of users every day, including outside visitors.
Earlier, Rumaizi was met by reporters at a press conference after completing the Release Ceremony of the MBI Flood Relief Mission to Mersing, Johor at the MBI grounds, here on Friday.
