LENGGONG: The state’s athletes should have seriousness and a deep interest in the sports they are involved in to achieve the success they dream of.
Perak Menteri Besar and Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said that help from coaches is also important to ensure self-discipline is maintained and consistent.
“I always tell young people and athletes, the first characteristic we need to have to achieve success is deep interest. If you don’t have an interest, it’s hard to force yourself to enter the court.
“Then, due to interest, we will try to find knowledge. Look for a coach or teacher who will train us to become disciplined people to achieve our goals.
“Both effort and dedication are required. When we have a purpose and a destination, that is what will fuel our spirits to keep getting up and not give up,” he said.
He said this when officiating the Closing Ceremony of the Kombat Sports Carnival (Muay Thai Sports) 2023 organized by the Perak State Sports Council at Dewan Merdeka, here yesterday.
Saarani said the state government is always committed to training the talents of young people so that the sport can be promoted to a higher level.
“We have seen the action of the Muay Thai athletes who will represent the state in the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) as well as the athletes whose talents we are polishing.
“These athletes not only compete in Malaysia but also abroad such as in Thailand and Cambodia.
“This proves their determination to maintain their performance and enhance the good name of our state in this sport,” he said.
The Kombat Sports Carnival lasted for two days from 11 to 12 March with the participation of 53 participants from six states namely Melaka, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Kedah, Penang and Perak.
