IPOH – Manjung City was listed as a Happy City in the country which was announced at the 2023 World Happiness Day Celebration and the pre-launch of the Malaysian City Happiness Index Dashboard at Zenith Hotel Putrajaya.
Manjung was listed along with nine other cities based on the Happiness Index Study conducted by the Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT).
It involved a questionnaire to 42,000 respondents from 117 local authorities (PBT) in Peninsular Malaysia, the Federal Territories (Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur and Labuan) and Sabah.
The other nine cities that received the same award are Alor Gajah, Melaka, Gua Musang and Kuala Krai (Kelantan), Klang and Petaling Jaya. (Selangor), Kluang (Johor).
Also listed are Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, Kuantan and Rompin (Pahang).
Through the index, a total of 92 cities achieved a sustainable status with a score above 80 per cent and 25 cities recorded a moderately happy percentage with a score between 50 to 79 per cent.
Meanwhile, Special Appreciation was given to five cities that have reached the level of happiness based on the three main components evaluated through the Malaysian City Happiness Index.
Teluk Intan received the Happy Community City award while Taiping received the Age-Friendly Happy City award.
The other three awards are Jelebu Happy Family City (Negeri Sembilan), Kudat Happy Family City (Sabah) and Hulu Terengganu Happy Family City.
All awards were presented by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Local Government Development, Datuk M Noor Azman Taib representing the Minister, Nga Kor Ming.
