IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) confirmed that it has sent a letter of application to the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) to change the pitch at the Perak Stadium.
This was informed by the mayor of Ipoh, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, who is optimistic that the conversion to Zeon Zoysia grass can provide many advantages compared to the old ‘cow grass’.
“We (MBI) sent a letter two days ago, last Wednesday, to the Minister of Youth and Sports which we hope will be approved (the application to change the field grass).
“If possible, we want to replace it first (field grass), then MBI maintenance will be carried out.
“The existing grass at the state stadium is 26 years old, the current grass is of the normal ‘cow grass’ type,” he said.
He said this when asked by reporters if MBI had made an application to change to Zeon Zoysia grassland, as offered by KBS.
Previously, KBS through its minister, Hannah Yeoh, offered allocations to replace with Zeon Zoysia grass in every state stadium.
He said each state needs to choose a stadium for the project to upgrade the field and carry out initial maintenance before the party approves the allocation.
In the meantime, Rumaizi said if the application is approved, it will indirectly allow more football matches to be organized at the state stadium.
“We will lobby for that (football match), that’s for sure,” he said again.
Earlier, Rumaizi was met by reporters after officiating an iftar ceremony organized by MBI in collaboration with Perak Media Sports and Welfare Club, Econsave, Perak Community Specialist Hospital (PCSH), Navira Meditech and M Roof Hotel, here on Friday.
In the ceremony, a total of 49 orphans from Al Yassin Orphanage and Baitul Aini Orphanage were celebrated, including the giving of Raya money.
