Japanese Fruit Tart Café Opens in Market Street, Ipoh

by Anne Das

Ah, the joys of dessert! Is there anything better than biting into a sweet, flaky pastry filled with fresh fruit and cream? I think not. And if you’re in the mood for something truly decadent, Ipoh Echo has just the place for you: a cosy Japanese Fruit Tart Cafe that will knock your socks off.

IRODORI, the name of the Café, means  ‘To Add Color or “To Make More Beautiful’  is run by a Japanese and Malaysian husband and wife team. This little cafe is located in the heart of the city where options for food are aplenty. Offering dine In, takeaway or curb side pickup, this cute modern contemporary café is very welcoming as soon as you enter it. The tones are warm with little wooden tables and seats made specifically, to give this small space, character.

Whole Tarts are sold for RM120 or RM220 depending on the size.

The menu boasts a wide variety of tarts, each one more delicious than the last. The tarts are carefully crafted with lightly sweetened cream and fresh fruits, making them a perfect dessert for any occasion. Whether you are in the mood for something fruity or chocolatey, this cafe has got you covered.

But the real star of the show is the pastry case. Oh, that pastry case!

It was filled to the brim with the most beautifully created fruit tarts you have ever seen. Each one is a work of art, with perfectly arranged slices of kiwi, strawberries, and mangoes sitting atop a creamy filling.

There is nothing quite as delightful as a fresh fruit tart loaded with a great assortment of seasonal berries, nuts, and other fruit. Fruit tarts come in many varieties and combinations of fruits, making them one of the most versatile desserts.

But enough about the visuals. Let’s get down to business: the taste. I tried the Pink Crepe  Tart, which was delicious and it was like biting into a cloud. The mixed Berry Chocolate Tart was good too. The crust was light and flaky, the cream was rich and flavourful and the 4 types of berries (all imported) were so fresh and juicy.

I also tried the Mango Banana (RM19) (Cheese Base) tart……oh, the mango tart! It was like a tropical vacation in my mouth. The mango was so sweet and ripe and it paired perfectly with the  banana and creamy filling.

Lemon Avocado Tart

But the real surprise came when I tried the Lemon Avocado Tart – RM 22( per slice), which Vincent tells me is one of his new creations. I’ll admit, I was a bit skeptical at first but I had to try it. The verdict: It had such a unique taste, appetizing in flavour and made me want another bite. Somehow this pairing works!

Vincent is a very passionate man who worked in Japan and Singapore for many years before deciding to come back to Ipoh and keep creating these beautiful desserts.

Speaking to Ipoh Echo he says “Do come to visit us; we create special creations all the time and if you would like to order a whole tart instead of just a slice, we have two sizes. Large is 30cm, small is 20cm crusts and we require 2-day advance notice for orders. All our ingredients are fresh and most of our fruits are imported from US, Australia, and the UK such as our raspberries, blueberries, and cranberries to name a few”

In conclusion, if you’re a fan of dessert (and really, who isn’t?), do yourself a favour and check out IRODORI Tokyo Fruit Tart Cafe. You won’t be disappointed. And if you’re feeling adventurous, try the Lemon Avocado Tart. Trust me, it’s worth it.
