LUMUT: A man died after the lorry he was driving is believed to have fallen into the sea at a depth of 11 meters near Lumut Maritime Terminal, here early this morning.
According to the Operation Commander of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Perak, Mohd Azizi Zakaria, the victim identified as Aqil Rasydan Razmi aged in his 20s was confirmed dead at the scene of the incident.
He also said that his party received a call regarding the incident at 5.30 this morning before members of the Sitiawan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) with the assistance of the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) from BBP Pulau Pangkor rushed to the location.
“A 10-ton lorry has fallen into the sea at an estimated depth of 11 meters.
“There is one victim: the lorry driver in the lorry. Information from the port diver confirms that there is only one victim in the lorry.
“Ships close to the port were towed to facilitate rescue operations,” he told reporters.
He said two crane units from the port were mobilized to bring the lorry up to the cliff.
He further explained that the victim was successfully brought up at 9.45 am and was confirmed dead by the hospital’s medical officer.
The victim was then handed over to the police for further action.
The operation ended completely at 10.13 am.
