IPOH: Police arrested a local man and confiscated a backpack containing eight plastic bags containing powder and lumps of suspected heroin worth RM128,000, near Pasar Besar Ipoh yesterday.
Ipoh District Police Chief, ACP Yahaya Hassan said the arrest was made by a police team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division, Ipoh District Police Headquarters (IPD) on April 5 at around 12.45 midnight.
“As a result of the investigation on the 25-year-old suspect, the police found a backpack containing eight plastic packets containing powder and lumps of suspected heroin with an estimated weight of 3,660 grams.
“This represents a market value of RM128,000, where the number of drugs seized can be used by approximately 7,000 drug addicts,” he said in a statement on Friday.
He further said that the case was investigated under Section 39b of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the suspect was remanded for six days for further investigation.
In addition, property forfeiture action was also taken against the suspect under the Dangerous Drugs (Property Forfeiture) Act 1988 with the confiscation of cash belonging to the suspect amounting to RM1,100.
“Preliminary investigations found that the suspect is believed to have been active in drug trafficking activities since February 2023 and the confiscated drugs are suspected to be distributed in local markets around Ipoh.
“This success is an example of the cooperation between the community and the police in combating narcotics crime,” he said.
Therefore, he said, the police also called on the public to continue to channel information related to drug abuse activities to the police so that law enforcement actions can be improved.
