Tracing Ipoh: History and Stories for the Public

IPOH: The Tracing Ipoh: ‘Past to Present’ exhibition at the Perak State Public Library Corporation today aims to introduce the history of this city to the public.

The exhibition, which will last almost two weeks, from April 7 to 18, was loaded with various interesting contents including an invited panel that talked about Ipoh.

According to the Director of the Perak State Public Library Corporation, Rafidah Abdul Aziz, this is the first such program to be held at the library in conjunction with Visit Ipoh Year 2023.

Also organized today, is a Casual Chat Program ‘Telling the History of Ipoh’ featuring two experienced panellists.

“In addition to local visitors, we also want tourists to come here and make this library a hub for various information, especially the history of Ipoh and Perak.

“We want the youth and young people who may not know anything about the history of Perak because we know that this group does not like reading books but rather observing graphics and so on.

“We produce posters and texts about history, to interest them, especially school students. So that they understand the history of their own state,” she said.

She said this at a press conference after the opening of the exhibition at the Perak State Public Library Corporation, here on Friday.

In the meantime, a student of SMK Sultan Yussuf, Batu Gajah, Nur Aleeya Aishah Kamarul Ariffin, 19, said the exhibition gave her an opportunity to learn more about the history of Perak.

“Today I am present together with other teachers and friends. We have learned various information materials and saw pictures about the history of Ipoh that .

“This program opened my eyes that there are many things we can refer to, especially since I did take history as a subject for Form 6,” she said.

The program is organized by the Perak State Public Library Corporation in collaboration with MBI’s Town Planning Department, Perak State Museum Board, Perak State National Archives of Malaysia, Perak State Malaysian History Association and Tourism Management Berhad.
