Soldier missing in Belum Forest Reserve, Gerik found dead

IPOH: A Soldier from the 25th Battalion Royal Malay Soldier Regiment (RAMD) Camp Sri Bentong, Pahang who was reported missing in the Belum Forest Reserve, Gerik, since Friday last week was found dead today.

Perak Police Chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said, as a result of the search and rescue (SAR) operation carried out by the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM),p they found a body believed to be a member of the military at 10.15am  this morning.

“The body will be taken to Gerik Hospital for the purpose of autopsy,” he said in a statement here a while ago.

Mohd Yusri said the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) expressed their condolences to the victim’s family members.

Earlier, last Friday, the media reported that a soldier from the 25th Battalion RAMD Sri Bentong Camp, Pahang was reported missing while conducting an operation in the hinterland of the Belum Forest Reserve, Gerik.

Mohd Yusri is reported to have said that the initial investigation found that the incident happened on April 7 at around 5pm when the 33-year-old male victim along with five other members were conducting an operation in the assignment area.

According to the report, on April 9 at about 12.50 midnight the police received a report related to the disappearance of the man.
