Police investigate a hit-and-run case on Jalan Sitiawan – Taiping

TAIPING: The police are investigating a case of an accident and an alleged hit-and-run incident in Jalan Sitiawan – Taiping that went viral on social media recently.

Taiping District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner, Razlam ab Hamid said, at 11.55pm yesterday, the Perak Police detected a post uploaded by the owner of the twitter account @malaysianvirall showing an alleged hit-and-run incident involving a child on the route.

“The accident happened at about 7.30pm last Wednesday on Jalan Sitiawan – Taiping involving a four-wheel drive and a motorcycle.

“Where the four-wheel drive vehicle involved in the accident is alleged to have fled after the incident,” he said in a statement here today.

According to him, the incident involved a 28-year-old husband riding a motorcycle with his 26-year-old wife and 4-year-old child.

“The victim suffered injuries to his hands, legs and face only,” he said.

He said the police investigation found that both parties involved in the accident had come forward to the Taiping IPD Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division and made a police report related to the accident.

“Both parties came to the traffic station the next morning after the incident,” he said.

He said, following the police report, an investigation paper was opened and investigated under Section 279 of the Penal Code for reckless driving on public roads.

Earlier, it went viral on the social media twitter showing several pictures claiming that a four-wheel drive car hit and ran over a child which got various reactions from netizens.
