IPOH – A replica of the largest ketupat with a height of 16.46 meters (m) and a width of 13.41m was built in Kampung Bahagia, Sungai Siput which will be one of the attractions of Perak Visit Year 2024.
The cost of building the replica was partially funded by the state government which channelled an allocation of RM100,000 while the rest was sponsored by the villagers.
This giant ketupat replica has already been inaugurated by the chairman of the state Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee, Loh Sze Yee on May 13.
It is in conjunction with the Jalong State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Hari Raya Celebration at Kampung Bahagia Recreation Field here.
According to him who is also a member of the Jalong State Assembly, the construction of the ketupat replica started on April 3.
He said the replica of the ketupat is one of the initiatives for the Year of Visit Perak 2024 with its uniqueness allowing tourists to take pictures and upload them on their respective social media sites.
“Kampung Bahagia is a Malay village in the middle of Sungai Siput, this (the largest ketupat replica) is to preserve the traditions of the Malays and why we chose the ketupat motif,” he said through a display on the Facebook page.
