TAIPING: The police arrested three individuals believed to be involved in drug trafficking activities and confiscated 48.4 kilograms of cannabis-type drugs estimated to be worth RM153,260 in a raid in Kampung Paya, Kamunting last Wednesday night.
Perak Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said, the raid carried out at about 8.15pm by a police team from the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) arrested two men and one woman aged about 35 to 39 years old.
“As a result of the investigation and interrogation conducted against the three suspects, the police found and confiscated a number of compressed lumps believed to be Cannabis type drugs with an estimated weight of 48.4 kg estimated to be worth RM153,260.
“The urine screening test conducted on the three suspects was found to be negative for drugs.
“The suspect was also found to have no record of past offences,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Yusri said action was taken under the Dangerous Drugs (forfeiture of property) Act 1988.
“Where JSJN Perak confiscated three vehicles and a necklace with the estimated total value of the confiscated drugs and property being RM220,930,” he said.
He said, based on the investigation carried out, the three suspects are believed to have started being active in drug trafficking activities since June last year.
“The seized drugs are suspected to be distributed in the local market in the state of Perak.
“It is estimated that the amount of seized drugs could be used by 15,700 drug addicts,” he said.
He said, this case was investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the three suspects were remanded for six days from 18 until 23 May to assist the investigation.
