BAGAN SERAI – The issue of food supply security and deepening the water catchment area in the Bukit Merah Pond Lake are among the motions that will be brought to the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) starting Monday.
Gunung Semanggol State Legislative Assembly member Razman Zakaria said the two motions are seen as relevant to the interests of the people in this state.
He, who is also the Leader of the Perak Opposition, explained that food safety is an important aspect of the people’s well-being and is always on the main agenda.
“As a former Agriculture Exco, of course, the proposal to ensure the security of food supply for the people was also brought up in the DUN session this time.
“In addition to that, we will also ask the state government to deepen the water catchment area in Bukit Merah in addition to continuing the water tunnel construction project from Sungai Perak to the catchment pond. The Bukit Merah Pond Lake is the main lifeline for the people in northern Perak and should also be prioritised,” he said.
According to him, the two motions are very important discussions, so that there is action from the state government to ensure that the supply of food for the people is always sufficient while also avoiding price increases.
“It is very important because the catchment area is not only used as the main irrigation for rice paddies in Kerian but also for water supply for industrial areas in Taiping,” he said.
At this session of the State Assembly, Menteri Besar, and Datuk Seri Saarani Mohammad will debate the Perak Hotel Enactment 2023 and the Poultry Farming Enactment (Amendment) 2023.
