IPOH- A total of 2,000 Ipoh citizens attended the 60th Ipoh Car Free Day@Ipoh Low Carbon City in conjunction with the 35th Ipoh City Day Celebration at Dataran Ipoh, here this morning.
Ipoh Mayor, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ MD Daud said the Ipoh City Council’s (MBI) main goal of organizing the program is to make Ipoh a low-carbon city by 2030.
“MBI always encourages healthy lifestyle practices and ‘Go Green’ practices among the citizens in addition to improving the air quality and environment of an area that is crowded with motor vehicles.
“Awareness through road use education with a safe transport system for all ages is the main focus.
“In addition to providing a suitable space for weekend activities with the family, it also enhances the relationship between citizens of multiple races,” he said in a media statement today.
He added that through the program he was able to foster awareness about the environment, health, safety, history and heritage of Ipoh.
A total of 200 women and girls took part in the 3.5 km Hey Ladies Fun Walk to win prizes of electrical goods, hampers and goodies.
The Perak State Youth and Sports Department in collaboration with the Fitness Club also organized the Fit @ Community aerobics event.
The highlight event, Rumaizi also launched the No Plastic Bag Campaign under the management of the City Licensing Department.
