IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) will upgrade and restore the areas around the Ipoh Padang jogging track, which is said to be unfriendly to users and unsafe at night.
Furthermore, there have been complaints from the public alleging that the popular recreational area has become a place where some individuals consume alcohol and get drunk.
This matter has caught the attention of the Mayor of Ipoh, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, who emphasised that his office will carry out restoration work if necessary and cooperate with the police for enforcement purposes.
“I have instructed the Director of Landscape to identify any open areas that need to be upgraded for the comfort of the public who use them.
“As for the issue of intoxicated individuals at night in Ipoh Padang, we will collaborate with the police to monitor and supervise to curb unwanted incidents,” he said.
He made these remarks when asked by reporters about the issues of the poorly maintained Ipoh Padang and the lack of lighting along the jogging track at night.
Meanwhile, Rumaizi also reminded the public not to use electric scooters on the field.
“That is not allowed. I have informed MBI’s enforcement officers to take action against anyone using scooters on the Ipoh Padang.
“We don’t want the field’s surface to be damaged, so I urge the public to comply with this instruction,” he added.
In addition, he stated that the current situation in Ipoh City is related to the increasing number of people coming here.
“I consider this a new matter. Previously, there weren’t as many people in Ipoh. Take the latest example in Kinta, in 2016 the population was around 778,000, and now it has reached 910,000.
“Not to mention the tourists, when people come in large numbers, it brings economic progress, but at the same time, it has other effects such as littering, vandalism, and so on,” he explained.
