TAIPING: A baby boy was found in a box with his body covered by ants at a bus stop in Taman Kota Wira, Kamunting yesterday morning.
Taiping District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Razlam Ab Hamid said, it was noticed after a woman traveling through Jalan Kamunting to Batu Kurau stopped her vehicle at the bus stop to take items from the bonnet of her car at around 10am.
“When the woman got out of her car, she heard the sound of a baby crying at the bus stop and found a baby boy wrapped in a brown towel in a box and the baby boy was covered by ants when he was found.
“The baby boy was rushed to Taiping Hospital for further treatment,” he said in a statement here tonight.
Razlam said that the results of the examination carried out by doctors at Taiping Hospital found that the baby boy was healthy and weighed 2.62 kilograms.
“The baby boy had rapid breathing problems and needed intubation.
“The baby boy has the characteristics of dehydration and was given an ‘intravenous drip’, he was suspected of having an infection and was given antibiotics,” he said.
He said the police are investigating to identify the suspect who dumped the baby boy.
“The case is being investigated according to Section 317 of the Penal Code, which is concealing a birth with the intention of abandoning a baby, which carries a prison sentence of up to seven years or a fine or both, if convicted,” he said.
