IPOH: A total of 185 motorcycles and 258 individuals were checked during Op Samseng Jalanan at Jalan Pasir Puteh near the Station 18 area today.
Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan said, the operation from 12pm to 6am was carried out by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Ipoh District together with the Perak State National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).
He said the integrated operation involved a total of 62 officers and members of the Ipoh District PDRM and six officers and members of the Perak AADK.
“As a result of the inspection, a total of 37 motorcycles were confiscated for various offences, while eight local men aged 17 to 24 were also arrested for reckless and dangerous riding of motorcycles under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 [act 333].
“In the same operation, a total of 391 traffic summonses for various offences were issued to road users,” he said in a statement today.
Yahaya said, apart from that, the Ipoh District PDRM, together with the Perak State AADK, have also succeeded in arresting three local men aged 24 to 32 for being found positive for methamphetamine under Section 3(1) of the Drug Addiction Act (treatment and rehabilitation ) 1983 (amended 1998).
He said his party will continue to carry out such integrated operations from time to time to further strengthen law enforcement actions against road hooligans in this district.
“It is one of the Ipoh District PDRM’s efforts to reduce the number of road accidents while also helping to prevent street crimes around Ipoh city.
“We would like to advise the public to always obey traffic laws and regulations to ensure the safety of all road users,” he said.
