IPOH – The claim circulating on social media about cracks in the recently opened Bagan Datuk-Sejagop Bridge is false, according to the Chairman of the Perak Infrastructure, Energy, Water, and Public Transportation Committee, Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.
He clarified that what exists are “expansion joints” that are currently undergoing repairs and rectifications.
“It is not cracks but rather the expansion joints that are being repaired and rectified by the contractor. This matter is currently being addressed,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Public Works Department (JKR) issued a statement today, stating that the observed cracks were designed as part of the concrete expansion and contraction process.
The JKR statement further explained that the video in circulation was recorded before the material had been fully installed.
“JKR takes the video that was circulated on TikTok seriously, claiming that there are cracks in the newly completed bridge. The video also alleges that the bridge uses cheap plastic materials,” the statement read on Thursday.
Previously, a video went viral on social media claiming that the newly opened Bagan Datuk-Sejagop Bridge had suffered damage. The video was shared on Facebook yesterday.
The caption in the video reads, “They say they used gasket glue, hahaha, Bagan Datuk bridge.”
The bridge, which was opened to the public on May 31, was visited by the Deputy Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Bagan Datuk, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, one day after it was accessible to the public.
